Resin comparisons (2021 update)

2013

Something I did today. I asked Withdoll for some of the colours I’m missing as samples, and they sent them all. xD An army of feet. I took out other company dolls and parts while I was at it.

D-storic milky white and Withdoll white are both paper white. Souldoll is the next whitest and after that the newer Soom, Fairyland and WD cream white match. WD rose white looks like Dream of Doll’s current normal skin (I don’t have it anymore, though). And so on…

Normal skins next…

(Yeah, I don’t have a lot of tan dolls, sorry)

Just Withdolls:

2014:

Don’t seem to have updated these to my domain. Can view them in the Withdoll blog here

Taken 2015:

2016:

*All samples except the pale brown were made in 2013-2014
**Pale brown is now called light rosy brown

2020 update:

Do note that the brown tan in these photos is not accurate to what a brown tan you’d get now is. It’s there for comparison’s sake and for people that may have an older brown tan doll.

2021 update:

Sorry the light is a bit warmer in these than before, the sun was being annoying.

**Pale brown is now called light rosy brown, they’re the same colour.

Withdoll has their own new color chart for 2023 with some changes to the skins. Most notable being that cream white is discontinued, and they’re renamed pale brown to light rosy brown. Sweet green is also not available anymore (and I don’t have a sample of sweet blue).

  1. Hi this is amazing! I have a hard time figuring out how to look at the pictures.. I’m new to hybrids. I want to match a fairyland head in white from 2018 to a new doll body. So you have any resin recommendations? Thank you so much!

    1. Well, as you can see I mostly just have the Withdoll color array with me and most of my dolls are old and won’t provide accurate up-to-date information. How I look at resin comparisons is look for ones with the color doll I have and look for similar colors. If a comparison doesn’t have the exact company I want to match, I do a lot of cross referencing (X is close to Y, so photos with Y and other companies help). It’s just gotten more complicated over the years because the hobby has aged and not all comparisons have dates.

I haven’t owned a Fairyland doll since like 2010, but if they still do the cream based white skin, it should match with most similar ws dolls (like withdoll cream white). Aka. those that tint to yellow, rather than red. Or much older red tint ones, because the red pigments are first to fade. I remember my mnf being very similar to Soom cream white back then (also Souldoll starts out paler but yellows to match fairly well, but I think they recently changed the ws, so that might not be the case anymore). But honestly, it’s best to identify whether the white resin tints to red or yellow and then look for companies that have one of those. Non-pigmented paper white will not match until it yellows after some years and probably not even then (cause then it suddenly yellows really strongly). The good news is that white skin dolls are easier to hybrid than other colors, because they have the least tone variation imo and they yellow to fairly similar shades as they get older.

With hybrids there’s always the risk that even if the pieces match initially, they won’t anymore a few years down the line. Because different resin mixtures age differently. And with hybrids it’s also good to be ready to do some blushing to match (easiest is to match the neck if the body is lighter than the head).

      1. Hi!! That’s such good advice thank you! I have a hard time finding comparisons indeed. It is a more creamy white I would say? I wish more people made blog posts like you. :)

  2. Hello. I have a soom head in smoky gray color, and I am looking for a body for him. I think about withdoll in rosy brown. Can you please tell me if they are similar and how they fit together? Thank you.

    1. Hi, unfortunately I don’t have a Soom smoky gray to compare with anymore. But I’d assume rosy brown is too dark in comparison, while light rosy brown might be too pale. You could always request color samples of those colors from Withdoll? Might need to pay for shipping, though.
