Modding a GSE torso.

I finally had it with my DIM GSE body. I have it for Lilya, and since she’s one of my human characters, she actually needs to know how to pose naturally. Especially to sit. (My fantasy characters mostly just stand around so posing for them isn’t as necessary.) And her body is otherwise very flexible, but is has one huge flaw: a boob joint. Not only does it not move well, but when it does it makes her boobs smaller when bending it forward -which I do, because I want her to sit naturally (I wish) and it gives her a ginormous hunchback at the end of the arched back. Which is just downright unnatural.

So, I’ve been playing with the thought of glueing and epoxying the boob joint shut and just sawing her torso in half at the waist. Really, I’d prefer to just buy her a new body, but there are no options for her size. Her face is huge, and anything with shoulders less than 9cm (including arms) is just too small. Her body is too tall for her, way too tall, but again, since she needs wide shoulders there are no options for shorter bodies. Except the one she came with: Iplehouse JID, but I sold that for a reason. I will eventually try to get her a new head which is hopefully smaller than her current one, but I’m waiting for owner photos to confirm that it’s actually smaller in size.

But yes, as I am out of options, I decided to finally just go for the mod. It couldn’t possibly make her worse than she already is. I mean, all her other limbs work really well, so it’s a waste to have a useless torso. And it’s very long anyway, so shortening it is not a big issue.

I was asked to document the process, so I did. You can jump straight to the results, if you’re not interested in watching resin get sawed and sanded.

Okay, so let’s start from the very beginning:

Rivalry

The sun was out today for the first time in weeks. Unfortunately, just as I got to actually posing these two, clouds came and it got really dark. But since I’d taken the time to dress these two the night before (took like two hours due to having to iron the outfits and change limbs etc.) and set up the backdrop fabric, I thought: heck I’m not gonna stop without getting a single photo! Since it was dark already it was best to lengthen the exposure and I need a stand for that. So, I figured I might as well go all out with the pose (and take my time). Unfortunately it meant that I didn’t get a full shoot since just one took so much effort. So, the rest are pretty boring.

This is also the first time Delmia is wearing a uniform since changing her look. She had a dark theme before and wore a red and black uniform, but now that wouldn’t suit her anymore. Luckily I got this grey one back from Mizya since she sold her Apate in mini size and it suits Delmia well. Yay for not having to sew another one. Though, she does need a skirt of her own for it.

Born of Winter

I forced myself to go outside for some overdue winter photos yesterday. It was a nice Sunday so it had to be done. I’m not feeling very inspired despite the nice weather, but I did have a good time at least and it resulted in some decent photos. I should work on her new headdress and do some airbrushing, since I bought more paints on Saturday, but I haven’t gotten to those yet. Slowly, but surely…

Sorry they’re a bit repetitive. I should really take more than one doll out at once, but it’s more hassle and I don’t really have many I could take. Unless I continued my stories, but they’d require some creative solutions. x_x

New year, new bling

Hi, it’s been a while since I’ve taken photos of my dolls. Or really done much with them. The end of the year was slow time for me regards to the hobby. I didn’t even get to make use of the holidays sales most companies had, because the company I wanted a doll from did release what I wanted, but refused to add another colour option, so I didn’t get my Cin. I’ve been waiting for a re-release of that doll for 3 years, and nope. Probably have to wait 3 more. Sucks, because the gender balance of my collection is really off right now, and I’d need more guys. Nox needs a body, but so do some of my girls (mosly Ye Rin, but I haven’t done research for her yet). I’d also love to re-shell Lilya (again) because Souldoll released a face that’s quite perfect for her and the head is probably, maybe, smaller than her current head. Which would save my ass. Unfortunately they won’t sell the head separately, but they do sell the body (Vito), so splitting it is probably useless. Sigh. Vito is waaay too tall for her and completely the wrong shape. Her current body is already too tall (46-47cm), so 50cm? No!

My only doll related activity as of late is re-painting Yami. I was never happy with her face up because I just originally painted her as quickly as possible in order to have her all together. Then, I was too lazy to fix her. I’m still not happy with the face because I ended up rushing it, but I do think it’s better than before. Character wise.

Since she has a new face, I took some photos of her. The lighting is bad, with stupid shadows on her face, but at least she works artificial lights decently. Most of my dolls don’t.
