A 10 month project (working on and modding Naenia)
Hello everyone! As you’ve probably noticed from my last entry, I finally received my Bimong order from last May and got to work with her immediately. I spend the first day modding the torso and the next few days painting her and playing with her. And since I documented most of what I did (starting with the tail last April) I thought I’d make a post about it. For my own records if it’s not of interest to anyone else.
I’ve wanted a mermaid doll for forever. Actually since childhood: I quite loved my barbies and other dolls with mermaid tails. I even have Siren because the Soom Cass pieces at the time were pretty much the only things that came close and they’re beautifully shaped. But as I am now, I’m also very picky with actual mermaid tails. Most dolls either don’t have attractive jointing in them, the tail is too thin or too short or they’re only sold as giant fullsets and are too expensive for me (looking at you Asleep Eidolon and Angell Studio). Or then the dolls are just tiny and I wanted something bigger. But when I saw the Fairyland seahorse tail for the first time, I quite liked what I saw. It’s not that smooth or mermaid-y looking but the jointing is quite well hidden and above all: versatile. So yes, I knew I wanted it, and that brought forward this character.
So, once the bottom half was decided on, how about the actual doll? Initially, I thought I’d get a grey skin Withdoll for this character, but I already have most of the head sculpts I want from them and I’m not a huge fan of the torso of the girl body anyway. However, a cold blue tail with a grey torso would’ve made a really nice cold climate mermaid. But when Bimong announced his final preorder for Narae and Narin, it all clicked. I’d wanted a 408 head for a long time and also a tan Narae, so what better than to combine the tail, 408 and tan skin. She’d be more warm toned and kind of tropical for our climate but what the heck. xD
I originally hunted for the clear blue tail, but I let all the ones I could find slip through my fingers. I didn’t have the funds and I wasn’t looking at it that seriously as I wasn’t, at the time, sure what doll I would get to be on it. Well, when I finally was able to afford and seriously look for one, pretty much all of them had gone and the market started to be replaced with that steampunk tail -which also was clear, but I did not want the carvings and gears and stuff on it, so it was no good. Luckily I at least found one mint tail with all the pieces that I could buy, so that’s what I had to use. But it really needed to be dyed. :3

A Death Song
Woo, I finally received my Narae order from Bimong last week and got straight to work with her. I’ve had her tail piece since before I ordered her, but I had to mod the waist to make her fit on it. I can’t wait for the snows to melt and the weather to get warmer to actually get nice photos of her. A good wig would be on the agenda too, but I first have to message some wig makers and gather up the funds. I haven’t finished all of her blushing yet and these photos are really dark and all, so not the best. But I just can’t help but to play with her. x3
I’ll make a separate entry of her modding, dyeing and stuff once I get good face up photos taken.
So yes, this is Naenia or Nae for short. Her name means death song or funeral song pretty much. She’s a Naiad, which is a type of a nymph that preys on humans and animals too. Similar to Siren but she’s not quite as predatory and not as resistant to cold.
Waiting for the girlfriend
Ooh, I managed to put my winter gear on and grab a doll and a camera yesterday. I still have other dolls I should photograph as well since we’ve had an exceptionally pretty winter so far. The only problem is that because it’s been cold, all the snow is powdery and there’s too much of it for most dolls. Like I wanted to take some photos of my noodle as well but nope, it’s too steep.

Soom 2012 SG female body comparison + review
I shot these at mizya’s place about 7 months ago, but then forgot about them. I also had a few demonstrative videos of the posing, but I seem to have accidentally deleted them or moved them somewhere else, since I’ve switched phones after that and they were shot with my phone camera. I will add them later if I happen to come across them, but I’m afraid they’ve been deleted.
This is otherwise kind of late, too, because the new Soom female SG body has been around since 2012 after all. But I haven’t really handled it much as I never bought one for myself. I got to borrow this one from kesakeru for this purpose.
First we have a comparison with some other dolls of the same size, and then a small review of a few of the joints.

Oasisdoll Chic body (ns) > old Super Gem female (pv) > New 2012 Super Gem female (tawny) > old Souldoll Zenith double (ws)
As you can see, the new SG body is the shortest: both the shoulders are the lowest and the neck is short so she says short. Old SG is tallest, though Zenith has the longest legs (those girls are all leg).
The new SG also has the shortest neck and sharpest turn at the base, making her stand quite stiffly compared to all the others. Both the new SG and Oasis doll have quite boxy shoulders as well, but due to the sculpting elsewhere in the torso, the Oasisdoll looks much more relaxed.

Taming the Noodle
These are something I’ve had the idea for for a while but it’s been pretty dark. Today the sun was out, though there were a lot of clouds coming past, so the lighting kept changing, thus the different colours.
My noodle STILL needs a name, but I promise, I’ll get there. xD

Okay, finally we have the set I took the contest photo from. I got this idea almost immediately when I heard the theme was nude dolls. And I’m definitely a winner here because I had too much fun. I almost immediately wanted to go back there, despite not having a different doll to take… But next year I should have the perfect one =w= and I really look forward to (taking) those photos.
This is a bit of a story but no narration or dialogue, so you can interpret it however you want. xD
In the forest
These are the very first nudes I took… I actually just grabbed Avis in the evening after reading the info on the photo contest and traveled to the forest to just test this location. I hadn’t been here in a few years and it wasn’t as impressive anymore.. there was also trash and the moss had receeded. :< But the tree trunk photo is pretty much my favorite of her. I just couldn't enter with it because she's touching the trunk and it's covering her arm -that's against the rules. And I didn't feel like traveling back there to re-do it. Mostly because there are no paths there and though it's not far, it's a pain.

Bodies of Water
Alrighty. I’ve been taking nude photos of my dolls (well, mostly Avis, because come on, that body is sublime) all month for DoAs anniversary contest. So, now I have a gazillion extras. After these photos I’ll still post from another set with Avis and with Yami. And then from the set that I chose the actual contest photo from, but that’ll only be after the results are out. :3
These were taken last week in three different locations. I was with Mizya and we bought day bus tickets to be able to ride as much as we need. So, we went around Jyväskylä looking for water locations, and well, there are muuuch more to check out, but we’d probably need to make a plan if we’re going to venture to more places because these were directions I’m more familiar with. I love the location these first ones are taken in, it kind of looks like an exotic jungle this close up. Then there’s a more Finnish forest stream and a lake. Unfortunately it was really sunny in the morning and then cloudy in the evening. We really should’ve visited them the other way around…
Echoes
I got my Cuartosdolls Nebo last week and this is his/hers(?) first official shoot. I haven’t decided on a name (or gender) for him, but I’ll be getting there (I’ll change the tag once I’ve decided on the name). Wanted to get him home before deciding on anything and that’s good, since he is a bit too small to be paired up with a doll as big as Sigrun. I had this shoot in mind when I ordered him… or more like I ordered him because I could just see this shoot in my mind’s eye. Though, since his colour theme changed a bit and he’s smaller than imagined, it’s not exactly how I pictured it. The last poses are closest to what I had in mind. He’ll likely end up in the same story with my Withdolls because he’s better sized with them… more specifically Delmia. Oh, I already have plans…
But yes, I ordered him in very pale grey resin, but didn’t realize to say that I would’ve preferred him in the same opaque metallic resin as the darkhorns. Since the sample image was just his head I didn’t realize my mistake. But no matter: I corrected the problem by cursing myself to endless re-painting of his spines (it’s already scratched!). =___=;; By giving him colour, the translucency isn’t as prominent and I like him better. His colour theme had to change too, because silver paint was too cold. He is a very interesting colour: by himself and on my hands he seems very much white, but when he’s put with other dolls or on a certain colour background, he clearly turns grey. At last weekend’s meetup he seemed to camouflage himself into the floors of the room. xD
Oh and yes, Sigrun is the main lead in this shoot, she even has a new dress for it. :’D I’m sorry it’s a bit repetitive. It was sinfully hot again and it literally took me 4 hours to take 100 photos because I had to take several breaks inbetween just to not die.
Beach babes~
I have some Yuyu & friends photos from this same weekend as well, but I haven’t managed to edit them yet. It’s a pain sitting in front of the computer.. it’s effin’ 29°C in my room (and it’s even hotter outside) and although I have a fan blowing at me non-stop, I’m dying. If I leave here it’s even worse. =__= Finnish houses are not built to keep the heat outside. I have zero energy to do anything whatsoever, and yet I’d have a ton of things to do. Mainly working on commissions, but it takes all my energy to just not die. I’m not built for this weather either.
Anyway, mizya‘s Ren is visiting in these photos. We worked on her swimsuit together the day before and then took both beach babes to the lake. :P
Summer Heat
I took a few trips to the beach with Mizya at the crack of dawn… figuratively speaking as the sun rises before 4AM. On Sunday I had Saya with me (editing the photos later) and we were there at 8AM, and today we went at 7AM to beat most of the swimmers and especially the kids that seem to arrive at around 9AM whether it’s a weekend or a weekday. On both days we first took doll photos and then went for a swim ourselves. Today I had the whole beach and deck to myself for a little while even. :D It’s infernally hot every day (25-30°C) and there are no clouds, but in the morning it’s still less horrible and the lakewater helps, although that too is at 23°C apparently.
Anyway, I was wondering who to take with me today and ended up going with Miy. Mostly because she could make use of the ring float (I was supposed to take the mattress as well but forgot and I’m kicking myself over it) and she hasn’t been maintenanced in a while. Avis would’ve been more handy but I _just_ redid her blushing and re-sueded her. Miy is very limited in her posing and I was pretty much able to only do one pose with the float, so these can get a bit repetitive. Sorry about that.
