Winter Nights

I haven’t had the time to photograph during the day but the weather is rather gorgeous, so I went out at night then. I absolutely suck at night photography and I don’t have any good lighting equipment either, so I just had to work with what I have. Which was the lamp on the backyard. There was nothing to light up the background, which is a shame. If I had proper flash systems these could’ve been awesome. But as it is, they dark and sort of bad. But at least it was fun rolling around in the powder snow with more falling all the time?


The first one is a flash photo (had to test it) and you can see the falling snow nicely.

Red and Gold dress commission

I finished a slightly larger commission dress and thought that it deserves an entry of it’s own. Iria got to model it because it’s close to what she wore when she was still a regular human -style wise. Otherwise it’s a bit too luxurious for her and red & gold aren’t really her colours either. They’d gotten this same fabric in a camel tone as well, but I wish they’d have a different, darker brown and I could make something similar out of it for Iria. I love it because it feels super soft and looks a lot like suede, though it’s polyester. It stains quite a bit though and I ended up with a pink sewing machine and Sigrun’s hips turned pink too (she modeled it until I finished it because her clothes were less of a hassle to take off, lol).

But well, I have undergarments in the works for Iria and a corset. Maybe one of these days I’ll find fabric for the outer pieces of the outfit as well… I hope. Her outfit will be somewhat different and more plain.

Snowfall

I’ve been working on sewing and face up commissions lately. The latter being a bit of a pain because of the weather, but I’m getting there… So, not much photos. But I did take these the other day. It was supposed to be my continuation to the previous Seb/Null photos, but unfortunately the heavy snowfall stopped right after the first photos of Null and I totally lost my inspiration. Sebille is also a noodle and I don’t feel like tightening her because I just want a new body for her.

And speaking of bodies… I managed to snatch myself a very cute limited DD off Y!J but then Withdoll went and released Vera, so I’m going to have to sell her right along. I’m thinking of re-painting her though and I’m definitely making her an outfit and having a shoot with her before she goes, though. Then, I need to buy Sebille that body and probably put Vera on layaway. That new skintone just tempts me so much. =u=

Anyway, a few photos (so not happy with them). I wanted a really good snowstorm going on but nope, just my luck..

Not a flight weather

This is super repetitive but I was in a hurry and the wind was strong. I started changing Nion’s clothes to something I could dig up (because I haven’t found fabric for his winter version outfit yet) and while I was fighting with him, the light started fading. The dude is a total noodle although it’s not long since I’ve changed his strings. Crappy things, they’d stretched a ton. I took like 7cm off and he’s sturdy again but who knows for how long. I’m always surprised by how pretty he is when he’s in front of the camera, for real. =u=

Anyway, I didn’t have time to get changed to proper winter gear either, so I got wet (too). I’ll try for more poses and variety next time. ):3

Azone: Rise goes skating

I just recently realized that the new park close-ish to my house has a small field, and that of course, they ice it during winter. It’s the first below freezing day in a couple of days today so I went to check it out. Although it snowed a lot all day yesterday, so I wasn’t sure if it was going to be cleaned yet. But yes, the mini tractor was still there working -on the park side. I think he’d just done the ice before that. So, I changed into my own skates and while I was doing that, the driver parked the tractor opposite to the ice and just stared at me from inside. That was super awkward. I haven’t been on my skates in like 10 years and I could barely stay up at first. The ice was all bumpy too, so not helping. But, luckily he left soon and I was able to ease back into it. My feet started hurting really quickly but I was glad to notice I can still go backwards and do little twists and turns.

And so that this isn’t just about me: Rise was there too, because ice skating is her hobby. :D I had basically zero privacy, because some woman came to clean the park (with a shovel and stuff) even further and was there the entire time I was on all fours, taking doll photos. That and kids were coming home from school and tried to see what I was doing over the snowy edges. =__= Oh well, I got a couple of cute photos. It was not easy because she was on skates -on ice and they obviously slide on it.

I wish there was a hockey rink close by -that would have nicer ice. The closest one isn’t that far away, but ices like that always have kids there, no matter what time you go.

Cold days keep on coming

Whoo, long time no see. I took some Yami photos at New Years but forgot to post them here. They’ll come later, though, because this is another DD entry. I’ve been inactive with dolls for many weeks now, but the days are finally getting longer and I’m hoping that would motivate me to photograph more. However, it’s been so insanely cold that long photo sessions are out. Today I braved the -25°C weather and took Saya and Yuyu out for a few quick outdoor photos. Yuyu just doesn’t really have good winter clothes and Saya’s coat needs to be shortened (I made it for Sigrun originally and so that a long skirt fits underneath). But at least I did something, right?

I have a TON of stuff to sew, including commissions, but it’s been so cold I haven’t gotten to go to the fabric store either, although I was supposed to go last week. Don’t get me wrong, I love it when it’s cold, but it also causes all sorts of problems like the car not starting, and having to put on a TON of clothes and then sweating like a pig indoors in the stores. =__= Not a fan of feeling hot.
I should also repaint Kiyori because I’m not very happy with her atm. But getting her the right colour eyes soon should also help. :3

Anyway, Yuyu went out and clearly wasn’t prepared for the cold, while Saya had no problems!

Snow and steel

Uugh, I’ve been busy, thus no updates in a while. But I’m alive! And today I took some time to take Iria out in her armours before there’s a lot of snow (though I bet that’ll melt soon anyway). I have some outfits planned for her that I’d like to sew this month. But I don’t know if I’ll be able to find the missing fabrics and if I have time. I mean, I’ve made some time between Christmas and New Year, but if my family distracts me non-stop, I won’t be able to work on it anyway. Sigh.

This was my first proper test with her after the torso change and elbow mods and she worked fine. I’m gonna test her arms with thicker string, though.

Oh well, now it’s back to commissions…

Leaving

Alright, first snow! And finally the rest of my earlier Sadol package makes an appearance: the umbrella! The moment I saw it I was like holy hell I need to have it! I’ve been dreaming of a black SD size umbrella for years. I even wrote about it on the Finnish doll forun back in 2008… I had to wait a long time and it’s too big for my SD girls (originally wanted it for Sebille) but Null has more stable arms for holding it anyway.

I was going to do a review of the umbrella, because it’s gorgeous and comes with it’s own bag and everything, but it’s so damn dark indoors that I can’t get any good photos taken. =__= It’s really quite huge, more like a golf umbrella for a 70cm doll, but works well for two dolls. It’s also surprisingly light. Not sure how it compares to the cheaper ones available but I’m sure that Sadol has made all the plastic parts themselves by casting them in black resin (it resembles Withdoll’s optional parts). The handle doesn’t stain the doll hands and all the shapes are very sleek. I love it ♥ Null has no problem holding it up without support, as you can see.

I’ve been waiting for snowfall to take these photos, and while I was doing this, I got an idea for another shoot that I’ve planned down to the last detail already. I just need to wait for a colder weather and a more powdery snowfall -whenever that will be. x_x Still, it’ll be so much fun and I hope I’ll be happy with the results. This was more of a test run.

Gloomy School Days

Ookay, I’ve been eyeing this Sadol school jacket ever since it was released but I didn’t have a doll to wear it back then. And once I did, I couldn’t afford to order from them. But a few weeks ago I finally did it: got the jacket, skirt, socks and super cute shoes. I need to make a few shirts to go under this, this is Sebille’s. Well, I planned on making them beforehand, but I got lazy and I have so much other stuff to sew too.

So glad this package arrived today. I was SO nervous because our postal service is failing with a package I have coming from Japan. It might be returning to sender -or not, they don’t even know at the customer service ¤”%#/”½!! I’m really worried for ANY packages right now actually, because of all the strikes and ongoing battles with the employers and employees and untrained workers and whatever. Some days we don’t even seem to get the daily mail into our box. But seriously, I will flip my shit if they return that damn package without even allowing the seize and re-deliver order I had them make take into effect. I’ve paid taxes for it and everything. If it does get retuned, I will see if I can just get refunded and the taxes returned because I don’t want to pay shipping again and play with customs again. Ugh.

But back to my Sadol package. I also got a little something for Null in it, but I think I’ll need to wait for some kind of snow before taking photos. I have an idea in mind. :3

Tourism

My dad had to drive up north for a meeting today, so I tagged along to keep him company for the long drive. I had Sayaka and Avis with me and my camera + various lenses but on the way our schedule was really tight and the way back was a race against the setting sun. But I don’t know when I’ll get to visit the area again because we no longer have relatives up there… Maybe if we go see our patch of land all the way in Kuivaniemi? I don’t know.

Anyway, I got to take Sayaka out on two different occasions: once on the way and once on the way back during the sunset. I had a third chance too, but it was cold and I felt lazy -besides it was already dark. Avis stayed in the bag the whole time, poor thing.

First spot: The Center of Finland.

I succumbed to tourism and Saya is showing the plaque, awesome. The actual spot is some 7km off this place, but they built it here along the road in the late fifties to make it into a tourist spot.

Dark Red

I took Prisca outside today since it was finally sunny and there were a few red-ish leaves left. This is an old silk dress I made for Lilya when she was still a MNF but it had some issues. I started taking it apart to add something to the back, but then got bored I guess and left it unfinished. It’s been in a fabric pile for years until I finally dug it up last week and completely re-did the back. A little fix wasn’t enough because Prisca is a lot taller than a MNF and she’s wearing super high heels too. And now she basically has a new dress. :D

This meme has been going around and I was avoiding actual things to do, so I finally did it as well. I loved that the questions are a little different from most memes. :3

Werewolf – How has the hobby “transformed” you?
In a lot of ways, but some of it’s probably also because I’ve grown with this hobby. I started this in my teens and I’ve been at it for 10 years, so things are bound to change. I used to make up stories and draw, but once I got into dolls I switched to photography. I use the doll characters as inspiration for stories that I write as photostories, text and as RP with mizya. So, basically the hobby changed the way I express myself. Though, I still draw and paint from time to time. I also really got into sewing through this hobby, before it, I had no interest to make clothes.
