I attended a doll meet on May 28th, and I guess it was officially a BJD meet, but DDs and Azones kind of took it over. I didn’t take many photos because the time just flew by. I had intented to take nice shots from the other owner’s dolls too, but I should’ve done that _first_ because I then got stuck taking photos of Kiyori in the tree (posted those already). But anyway, these are the few general photos I took (mostly of the group photo) and the few Yukihi photos I had.

The attendants were: myself, mizya, Pihlajakoto, Turre, Sweetneat/Milly and Kesakeru.

Another Zoo visit

Alright, this is my second visit to Ähtäri Zoo this year, and ideally we’d like to make one more towards the end of the year, before actual snows. But we’ll see. We were in a group of four and like city people (which we’re not, me maybe most), we all forgot to take mosquito repellent with us. I don’t know what’s wrong with us, we should all know how horrible the mosquitoes get in this country. And let me tell you, those little demons were infernal. We were all full of bites by the end and our trip included a lot of curse words. Such a perfect meal we were.

Another unfortunate coincidence was that 5 bus loads of school kids happened to arrive at the same time. Sigh. Luckily they moved quite swiftly, although they were many in number. So, they weren’t horribly distracting, not including the swarm of little people scaring the otters into hiding and a group of very obnoxious boys making intentional racket (stomping their feet and chanting something loudly) and then being snotty about it when they were told to stop. I’m fine with kids that don’t realize that they’re doing something wrong as long as they stop when someone points that out, but do NOT be snotty about it when you’re being scolded. The people were bothered and so were the animals, poor things.

I took a gazillion photos again, and ran out of space on my memory card -again. Unfortunately I had my camera on the wrong setting through the whole trip, so it didn’t focus as well as it could have. Oh well, next time I’ll be vigilant. This time it was also super hot, so we missed some animals, but I also saw two of the animals I’ve never seen at Ähtäri before (being active anyway) because we entered right when the gates opened.

And here we go, starting with the wolverines. I’ve never seen them here before, although I’ve always wanted. They got food and were very active and playful. I got a ton of photos with them licking their lips, too (unfortunately none of them properly in focus). So cute, and damn, their fur looked so shiny and nice. ♥

Apple blossoms

I went to a doll meet in an apple tree garden this past Saturday. Well, it’s more like a public park, so they’re not taking care of the lawn and stuff, so there was a sea of dandelions kind of ruining the scenery, but some of the trees were blooming so amazingly that I got really camera happy with my dolls (mainly Kiyo). (~ *3*)~ This is also where I took my Lin photos last year.

I took my two swings to the park and set them up on different trees, so everyone got some swing photos as well. :3

This is just my Kiyori shoot. I’ll post my Yukihi photos later and a group shot of all the dolls that attented.

Date time

Alrighty, I like to do something for myself on my birthday every year, and this time it was having a shoot mizya and I had been planning for a while. Well, we took other photos too, but I’m only posting our Min Ki & Mi Cha date photos for now, because they’re cutiepies. ♥ ♥

Too tied to go into more detail right now. It’s been a long day with commissions and then I edited these photos and ugghh. Enjoy.

Spring coming along

I changed the colours of the blog to be more spring/summer like. :3 And to celebrate I also took a few snapshots of my Vera (yeah, more swing photos). I actually had grand plans for these and woke up early. But just my luck: it was cloudy. The ONE morning I was ready to go right out and make use of the beautiful morning sunlight our yard gets– and it’s cloudy! Of course NOW it’s sunny that I’m back inside, but the sun has already turned and comes on too strong. In the early morning it shines through some trees and creates beautiful soft shadows. :/ Since the lighting was dull, I wasn’t inspired to really take a lot of shots or play with her poses this time.

Oh, but I’m finally closing in on a name for her. I want to have one with a meaning of “air” or “ether”. Unfortunately my favorite candidate is a masculine name, so I may have to look into it some more. Even with a name though, I’m not sure what to do with her. I’m considering selling her body (with margery/adriana head) and switching her to light brown and to share the body with the Dark Vera when she arrives. Mostly because I don’t really have the space to keep two SWDs around. But I just don’t know right now… I think I’ll have to see what I think of the new skin tone whem my dark girl arrives first, and then decide that to do.

Swinging towards summer

I’m really on a roll. Commissions aren’t moving as well as photos, but it feels like it’s been forever since I’ve actually enjoyed taking photos. Lately, it’s just been me shooting sales or commission stuff. Feels good to do something for myself for a change -even if it’s just taking photo.

We removed the netting from around the cherry tree yesterday, because I’m pretty sure the hares won’t be eating it anymore. I made this swing a while ago but the weather hasn’t allowed me to test it -and the tree was inaccessible anyway. I also have an SD size, but that will have to be tested later (I have some niiiice plans for that one). ):D

I was only supposed to test the swing, but this turned into two mini-shoots. First one was Avis when I was just setting it up, and then I took Min Ki there too, because I quickly -finally- gave him a manicure and then felt inspired by him.

Magical Green

My spring ritual is a little late this year because the weather hasn’t allowed it. The snows took a while to melt and it’s been too wet to shoot here, but today was finally a good day. I waited all morning for clouds to start to sail by and then had to take breaks while whooting because the sun came out occasionally. But it all worked out pretty well. The colours change a bit because of the lighting conditions but it’s fine. For once, I’m really happy with these photos. There are some issues, but maybe nobody will notice if I don’t mention them, haha.

I finished this dress for Iria a few days ago. I started it around the time I posted that red&gold commission dress. This is muchly inspired by it but has more pieces so that it can be combined with other pieces as well. I’ve been saving this green silk quite a while and only making small things out of it, but now I finally decided it was time to make something really nice and fancy out of it and this happened. Bye bye green silk, there are only scraps left now. I absolutely loved how it looked at this location and I know another place it would look great, too, but I don’t know if I’ll be taking Iria there. I’m kind of tempted by Llyr. I could take them both but I don’t think I could carry them there because the terrain is really hard to walk on. I’ll have to check it out soon, though, because soon there will be swarms of mosquitoes out and about.

This is really image heavy… again. I was out there for 1,5hrs and took over 200 photos, which I narrowed down to these 40-ish. So, sorry about that. xD

azo2 vs obitsu 48cm (vs DDS/DD) comparison photos

I haven’t been able to find very good comparisons of the AZO2 body with the other Obitsu bodies Azone uses for their bigger doll line, so I thought I’d do this set because I have them both and DDs home.

The AZO2 body is on the same frame as the slimmer obitsu bodies and I think the limbs are regular obitsu parts as well, but the torso is azone’s own design (or obitsu made for azone? I’m not sure). I’m not so familiar with obitsu that I’d know exactly what arm and thigh pieces the AZO2 body uses either, but I guess they’re from obitsu’s lineup in some size.

Azone: A new, bigger arrival.

This one of those arrival entries… again.

I was finally able to get myself a large Azone! I’ve been seriously considering them ever since I got my first DDs, but I had some trouble getting one I wanted. My favorite faces are in the Black Raven series, but only Cecily is on the AZO2 body, which I prefer. I also like the first ver. Yui and Mahiro from the Happiness Clover series, but goddamn, they’re expensive! So, I’ve been waiting and watching quietly, until last November I managed to snatch the AZO2 body alone. However, our postal service messed up and had strikes and it took all of December to get to me -they were already sending it back to Japan (even after I’d paid the taxes for it!) until I exploded at them a little and they managed to deliver it back to me. It’s been sitting in storage since it’s arrival, while I’ve been looking at heads for it.

But now that I had the body, my options were open for the head, so I got back to the Black Raven series with my favorite faces. I watched as many older release Lilias, Lulunas and Amanes came and went -and even bid on a few, but their prices always climbed higher than what I was willing to pay. I know, there are a gazillion of the newer Lulunas and Lilias with the blonde/slightly brown hair and mismatched eyes about, but… I don’t like them. :c A head alone would’ve been ideal because I wouldn’t keep the body and the outfit probably wouldn’t fit the new body. I just recently missed out on a lot of the lovelies from the old releases (they’ve been popping up frequently lately), but that gave me hope: there are quite a bit of them on the market and they go for less than the Happiness Clover girls. Like waaay less, even with full outfits.

In the end, I didn’t get any of the releases I’d been looking at. I ended up just having to snatch this almost red-head Luluna from Mandarake, because… a red-head! And I love Luluna’s face probably the most out of these girls. I hadn’t considered this release before because she never pops up. The DS releases of the big girls are near-impossible to come about, especially for a reasonable price. :/ This girl didn’t have her stock outfit and Manda mentioned a cigarette smell, and she was still a bit more than what I was willing to pay (especially for a cigarette smelling doll without the default outfit -the ones on YAJ often end at a lower value even with an outfit). But with my birthday coming up, Mizya offered to pay a portion of her =u= ♥ so I was able to bring her home ♡✧( ु•⌄• )

Easter eggs, but for whom?

For once I took themed photos. Easter is on the agenda this time. I planned on doing some tiny!Himeno in the nest photos among others, but I already took the nest photos a few weeks ago because I wanted to try it. And the others I can’t really do without mizya, so… I made a random Easter story.

Himeno wants the nest for herself but runs into some… obstacles.
(Ea is afraid of round objects, thus the poking of the eggs to make sure they’re not completely spherical)

A Victorian Lady? +outfit photos

Okay, so I’ve planned on making a Victorian outfit for Seere for quite some time, but I haven’t come across good fabrics for her. Then, I found this off-white striped satin that is just beautiful and thought “Heck, if I can’t find nice red fabrics, I’ll just make her a red and white outfit, then”. But then I got the Vera head and thought that she’d look gorgeous in such an outfit as well, and decided to make it for her instead. Only, she doesn’t really work red, so she got purple and white.

It’s a good thing I switched the sizes, because the white satin is pretty much gone now. I wanted more of it for the skirt but there just wasn’t enough. Also, due to a little pattern mishap with the skirt this ended up bigger than it was supposed to be. Now the outfit is kind of a late 1860s and 1880s hybrid. The shape of the skirt goes to late 1860s and early 1870s but this jacket type was more common in the 1880s. Oh well… Some day I’ll make a princess or a sheath dress of the 1880s style and then something biiig similar to the 1860s. There are also a few historical outfits from the Victorian era that I’d like to replicate in doll size… some day.
Yes, I’m big on Victorian fashion, although I don’t often get to make Victorian outfits for my dolls. But I’ve done quite a bit of research the era and even wrote my thesis on Victorian women’s fashion.

I’ve made a few Victorian-inspired outfits in dolls size before. My very first one was this one for Seere (she so needs an updated version soon). And the next one was this for Lilya when she was still a MNF. But after I sold her, I gave the skirt to Avis and made her a new jacket to go with it. This new outfit is pretty much an upgraded version of the purple dress I made for Lilya.

My poor Vera is still nameless and I also don’t have properly fitting eyes for her, so she looks a little blank, but let’s not let that bother us… Warning: there are a lot of photos.

Soom eyes (warning)

I thought I should make this information post because I haven’t seen anyone mention this before.

I used to buy a lot of Soom eyes in the years 2008-2011 because I also bought their dolls. Then, I had a pause and only ordered some pairs occasionally (through Safrin doll because of the manageable shipping).

At around 2013 I decided I needed to order Seere a new pair of Zinnias because hers had gotten a little dull and wouldn’t reflect light well anymore. When I received them, I noticed that Soom had suddenly completely changed the way they make their eyes: the irises sit way deeper in the eye and they have a new printer. The fact that the printed irises are deep in the hole causes the rims to disappear and the pupils get really weird red reflections from the light. As a result the new Zinnias looked like completely different eyes.

I complained to Soom and they sent me another pair: only for me to discover that they were just as crappy AND the other one had a wonky pupil. I did see that they had tried to make the rim more visible, but it wasn’t nearly as good. I told them that they were not even close again, so they said they’d make me a third pair and would make sure there are no wonky pupils. About a month later I received the third pair and they still weren’t any better. None of the eyes I received looked anything like the original pair and at that point they apologized and said that they can’t make them like they used to anymore. So, no new eyes for Seere because they look so different that her whole expression changes:

Later that same year I ordered some more Soom eyes from Safrin doll to test their blue eyes for some of my dolls. Some of the eyes were the old style (they’d been in storage) and some were newly stocked and made with the new style. There’s a clear difference between the old and new types so it’s not hard to recognize them.


The far right one is the new type, you can see from the shadows and the pupil reflection.

I also ordered a pair of the Cinderella Star Light Blue limited eyes (the eyes they just recently sold again with some other limited, beware!) in 2014 despite how they were made. I didn’t mind that the rim disappears because they were pictured in a doll, so I knew what I was getting. I put them in my Siren because they’re a lovely bright blue colour. ♥

Or were. The reason I’m writing this entry is that a few months ago I looked at my Siren (took her out of storage) and noticed that she was wearing green eyes. Wtf?? I took them out and examined them and yup, they had yellowed like crazy. They’re less than two years old. And the doll that’s been wearing them has been in storage most of the time I’ve had her. When I noticed the yellowing, I immediately dug up my Soom eyes from storage and examined them. True enough: all the new type blue eyes were more or less green. I have two pairs of bluemarbles left, so you can see the difference in their colour clearly.

I’d recommend to not buy new Soom eyes (especially blues) unless you don’t want them to yellow like crazy, because this is just horrible. All my older type Soom eyes are fine. None of them have yellowed like this -and they’ve been in a doll that’s on display 24/7 364 days a year and get natural light. Mostly it’s the white parts that have gotten slightly yellow and some parts of the colour maybe (like in the above zinnias) but they’re not a completely different colour. Their domes don’t turn yellow in a year. =__= This pisses me off so bad because Soom eyes are not cheap, and yet they’re made like crap nowadays.

I am now wondering where to get the right colour eyes for some of my dolls to replace their old good quality (but dulled) Soom eyes. -__-;; And where the hell will I get young!Kilbas nice eyes since Yami stole his.

Withdoll Light Vera

I received a Light Vera head from Withdoll in advance, so that I can show the doll with a different styling from the promo photos. Withdoll also extended her sales period for a week, so go check her out. Mizya got the Dark Vera head as well, but she only received it today from me, and I don’t know when she’ll paint it.

I’m quite loving the sculpt. She’s got smaller eyes than their previous big girls and super lovely pointy ears. I don’t have eyes or wig for mine, but I tested a few styles for her. She’s wearing leekeworld 14mm glass eyes through the wig photos, and in other photos she’s got Soom 14mm eyes. (Yes, I really only have blue spare eyes.) This face up I made would definitely need a light coloured wig, but unfortunately most of my SD wigs are dark or brown.

I will also be getting a pale brown Dark Vera eventually, but I put her on layaway, so she probably won’t get here before late summer. I have her sword here with me already and I have plans for her, but nothing has progressed as of yet. At least I have time. xD

Azone: A tiny arrival

So, I ordered the new Picco Neemo himeno. I like the teeny tiny size, but I don’t love most of the picco faces. Himeno is an exception, though, and Mizya has the cute older one that’s adorable. I’m so not a fan of this one’s outfit, but she’s got lovely brown eyes, so I got her anyway. I just need to figure out some clothes for her.
